The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year to Regroup, Refocus, Reflect, and Renew!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I don’t know about you all but I love the holidays. The gatherings, events, family, friends, the decor, the shopping, sales, the scarves, boots, sweaters, food, drinks…..I could go on and on. As the classical song states, it is the most wonderful time of the year!

I am counting down the days, as we speak, when I am officially off of work, out of school, and I can physically and mentally distress from the entire year.

I want to take this time to inform everyone that I will be taking the remainder of the month to regroup and not only focus on myself during this downtime but to come back 2019 with some fresh new wellness ideas and great health tips!

I have been asked numerous times on what my plans are for this month? How do I plan to regroup? What am I going to refocus in my downtime?

Well, I am going to do what matters the most and that is to focus and enjoy the now. I am going to enjoy my family, friends, and all of the moments and memories we will make the remaining of the year.

My anxiety has gotten worse over the year and I know it is because I stress about my future. Anxiety has tried to take its toll on my well-being, so I find it necessary to take a pause from time to time and refocus on what matters the most.

I have really learned a lot about myself this year, especially on how I deal with certain aspects of my life. And it turns out that I am not as strong, mentally, as I thought I was. There was a lot of emotions out of me this year that I did not know was there. I’m glad that I was able to cover a lot of relatable topics about mental health over the year for those who needed comfort because I to, enjoyed a lot of the research I have discovered within my classes and on my own, that has helped me relay some necessary self-help tips onto myself and readers.

If nothing else, if I have helped at least one person over this year, then I am proud to say that I am doing my job!

As I conclude the last blog of 2018, I hope that if you have the opportunity to take a break during the holidays, that you take it. Enjoy the now as we prepare ourselves for a new year. We don’t know what is in store for a new year or a new day for that matter, so prepare yourself for it, mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, and spiritually.

I want everyone to have a wonderful Christmas, a Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year! Until next year!

Be safe!

Watch What You Eat

1507594106368.jpgIt seems like over the past several weeks I have seen some totally outrageous outbreaks or news stories about food! During the holiday season, it is important to that you make sure you are being cautious and up to date about the latest recalls and outbreaks for you and your family’s Health sake.

There are many types of bacteria that can be infectious to your food such as Ecoli and Salmonella. You will normally hear the most common food born illness to be called Food Poisoning. This is an illness caused by eating contaminated food. Infectious organisms  including bacteria, viruses and parasites  or their toxins are the most common causes of food poisoning.

What is E coli?

E. coli is a type of bacteria that normally live in the intestines of people and animals. Certain types of Ecoli can cause intestinal infection and other strains that cause intestinal sickness due to the toxins produced. Symptoms of intestinal infection include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever. More severe cases can lead to a bloody stool, dehydration, or kidney failure.

What is Salmonella?

Salmonella is a common bacterial disease that affects the intestinal tract. Salmonella bacteria typically live in animal and human intestines and are shed through feces. Humans become infected most frequently through contaminated water or food. Salmonella infection is usually caused by eating raw or under cooked meat, poultry, eggs or egg products. Possible signs and symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and a fever.

Health Tips to Avoid Food Born Illnesses:

With that being said, we must watch what we eat!

I have had food poisoning before and it is not the greatest feeling.  So here are some important food tips to check for are:

  • Avoid eating raw foods. Thaw and cook foods thoroughly and properly.
  • Checking expiration dates. Try to stay away from spoiled foods.
  • Wash fruits, vegetables, and meats properly. Make sure you clean your kitchen area thoroughly for sanitation needs.
  • Check the sites regularly for updates list of food recalls: https://www.cdc.gov/ & https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls/
  • I rarely eat leftovers from a restaurant, but if you do, be sure to refrigerate. Do not leave out overnight. And be sure to reheat at a proper temperature and duration.
  • If something does not taste or smell right or even looks under cooked,  send the food back to the restaurant for proper food order.

It can be tough to avoid food born illnesses but small steps to ensure the safety of your health will avoid bacterial poisoning as much as possible.

Stay Safe out There!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Readers!

I just wanted to tell everyone to have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving! I absolutely LOVE this holiday, it is truly my FAVORITE!

Nothing like Food, Family, Football, & Fun.

Take some time out to truly show gratitude and Be Thankful for the blessings that continue to flow through you and your family’s life. This is the best time to reflect on the year and just be grateful for all of the ups and downs of life. Do not take this life you are living for granted. Stop for a minute and just breathe. Life can be so crazy right? So crazy, that you forget about the little things that keep you going like your mind and body.

Be thankful for your struggles. I always like to say that the downfalls truly make you a stronger person. It’s a blessing in disguise.

Be genuine in your giving. Never have expectations of reciprocation, because God will take care of you in his timing.

Most importantly,

Thank those around you that continue to love you unconditionally and support your life’s journey.

I want to take this time to say Thank You to everyone who takes the time to read my blogs and supporting my blog site. It truly means a lot to me and I wish you a fabulous Thanksgiving Holiday!

Treat yourself & Enjoy Your Holiday. ☺

~ with Love,

Essence & TheHealthySoulVibe

breathe_1024x1024.jpgIt’s the holiday season. It’s the end of the school semester. It’s the end of another year in my current career and I am just trying to BREATHE easy.

I am trying to stay afloat, stay calm, stay positive but anxiety is trying to have it’s way with me. I feel overwhelmed and my brain has about 10 windows open that will not close.          (Image created by: Zahira Kelly)

I hate this feeling. Just trying to make it through the week. Trying to stay encouraged and uplifted and push through. But I must say I am ready for a break. I know I went on a vent session on my last blog and I won’t do that this time. Yesterday,  I stumbled on a quote that stated that sometimes you just have to stop overthinking, have faith, and just breathe. DCSkaXcXkAEZh4G.jpg

I can’t WAIT for the day to wake up and say that it was all worth it. When I can look back and say that the journey was not easy and many days I wanted to quit, but I didn’t. To look back and say it all made sense on why my patience was being tested. I realized I am not the most pleasant person to be around when I am stressed. And I appreciate the people around me that put up with my hot and coldness, keeping me sane, that keep me laughing, and help me to let go and just breathe easy. Sometimes I just need those kind words telling me that everything will be fine. That alone, allows me to exhale.

So if you are going through a trying time right now,  no matter how big or small it is,  know that there will be light at the end of the tunnel. A wise person told me that this won’t last forever.  The changes, the detours, the disappointments, the closed doors, the struggles, the overthinking, the stagnant journey, …….Breathe……and let it go. Everything will be fine. Continue to push through and definitely stay encouraged. I found myself running/walking and doing yoga at least once or twice a week.  We must find ways to relieve the frustrations, anger, stress, or anything that has your mind distracted and our bodies in tension.

I pray we will be successful in whatever we do. I pray we will conquer and overcome whatever is standing in our way whether that is fear or noise. Don’t give up, we got this.

Song inspiration by Floacist- Breathe

If You are feeling low
It is best to expose any thoughts of doubt
You gotta air out
Your greeting of the day
With the choices that you make
Decide what you will leave
Decide what you will take
Decision are the key
To release what you don’t need
If you gonna let it be
You have to let it be!
Be mindful not to keep
The residue of anything that had you feelin weak
Like, What was said
Versus what you think
Sometimes your own assumptions
Are the ways that make you sink
Feeling down
It can be an addiction
Getting up
Can be filled with hesitations
It takes determination
To fool proof the distractions
These attractions are the target on your soul
Asking you to stay
When you know you have to go
Know the things you know
Is your path just your own
Lessons will be Lessons
If you listen to that fear
Hear your truth
Keep it near
& then You just…

You gotta let it go
Let it go
So U can Grow!
You gotta let it go
Let it go
Just Breathe

Avoid all this confusion
Refuse the solution
If your destiny is not blessed
But It is your time
No matter who came before you
Don’t let them wear you down
With the pain of their past
Shape your own mind
It’s irrelevant
If relevance is measured by the elements
Without baring a reference
To your own kind
You mind find that
We are living in an era
That can’t be defined
By those
Who thought that this was the end
By those
Who thought that their enemy’s would win
By those
Who let paranoia turn them inside out
Do you know what this life is all about?
Can you remember
Before anyone taught you
To feel as if life is never gonna treat you
Better than the lesser
But that was in the prequel
What about now?
You took kidding,
so let it out

You gotta let it go
Let it go
So U can Grow!
You gotta let it go
Let it go
Just Breathe,

You can do anything that you want to do
Anything that your heart truly chooses
It may be a lonely journey
But it’s yours!
It’s your purpose
You may have to leave something’s behind
You may have to change your mind
You can’t bring everybody with you
But they will be better off
For having known you

You gotta let it go
Let it go
So U can Grow!
You gotta let it go
Let it go
Just Breathe,

I’m Not Fine, But I Will Be

Do you watch this TV Show?

If not, I strongly encourage you to tune in. I have never admired and loved a show so much that I had to blog about it.

So what does this show have to do with health and wellness?

This story-line embodies the most realistic life situations of the struggles with mental health along with physical and emotional health that occurs within people’s lives. Stress, anxiety, depression, the struggles of weight loss, alcoholism, drugs, infertility, marriage, relationships, race, from coping with death and so many more personal issues.

I am all caught up and before you click on one of my FAVORITE moments of this past show, I have to do the right thing to my readers and say, SPOILER ALERT.

My two favorite characters on this show are Jack and Beth. But in this clip, shows a moment of Beth and her husband, Randall, having a moment of truth & honesty.

Please watch this 3 minute clip!

All the feels right?! LOVE It!

Can you relate to Beth? I know I did. How many times have you walked around telling people, even family that you are fine when you are really not? Trying to be supportive of other people’s happiness and successes when you are under a dark cloud? Pushing through to make some things happen for yourself, while maintaining a positive mindset, smiling and NOTHING is coming through for you? To not wanting to hear the repetitiveness of inspirational messages. The “everything is going to be alright” speech. Or even anyone’s pity? I get it! As a matter of fact, I am THERE now.

I will say, I have learned that you cannot keep deep rooted and emotional feelings inside because if you do, and like Beth in the show has done before, you will explode. You will lash out, say things you don’t mean, and hurt a lot of people. Communication is HUGE among my family and close friends, and if something is bothering you, you must speak up. If you don’t want to talk about it, the least you should do for your sanity is be truthful to yourself and simply say, no, I am not fine.

What I love about Randall is his kindness, his support and the encouragement of showing Beth that when she is going through something, so is he, but he would have never known she was suffocating had she not spoke up. And Boom. A solution.

Your family, your close friends, your significant other should be on your TEAM.

And without informing your team what is going on, nothing and nobody can help you.

I understand being that person who thinks she can handle it all. Who is suppose to be the strong one. Who cannot break or show weakness. Who shuts down or stays quiet because she doesn’t need the sympathy or pity party. I am the person who tries to pull herself out of my own slump. Who will hit rock bottom before asking for help. It’s the stubbornness in me. It’s the introvert me. It’s the independence in me. As I have grown older I realize this pattern is taking it’s toll on me. I’m tired. I’m tired of doing it all myself. I am tired of working so hard and the future seems so far away. I am tired of feeling empty. I am tired of watching everyone around me get ahead and I am stuck in the same place. Tired of the Routine. Goals are far fetched. Visions are dreams deferred. Corporate America taking advantage of my work ethic. Finances blowing up in my face. It’s the moment of feeling defeated. Feeling almost pathetic. I’m broken. Maybe whining a bit but it’s my time to vent. I listen to everyone else but never share what I have bottled in. I reached out to God and I truly feel like he hit me with the “Who’s This?” lol ha! I’m laughing but I’m so serious! It’s been a mediocre road for me. Yes I am grateful for the life I have. But I am unhappy with the life I am currently living. And I am just trying to find myself. Yes even at 34. Anyways, I am not fine. But I will be. Because at some point I have to become a TEAM-player…..

Thankful November

There is something about the month of November that feels my heart with gratitude. Not to say that I a thankful for my life journey every day but I feel like November allows you to take those special moments to truly reflect and give thanks for the heart of each and every second it beats.

Whether the journey or the road you have been on or detouring from I have learned to be grateful for any of the closed doors, hardships, let downs, disappointments, or tough situations that I have faced in my 34 years of living.

And on the greater outlook of it all I am beyond blessed and thankful for the lessons learned and the outcomes of each and every situation I have been placed in. I am stronger. I am better. And I have evolved into the woman that my higher power has set me out to be.

I often go through life on many occasions asking, Why Me? or Why Not Me? I have learned that my patience is my greatest strength within me. I thank the universe for not rushing my blessings, for allowing me to endure the moments so that I feel every abundance of gratitude that over joys and warms my heart and soul. I hope you take the time to stop and appreciate the ultimate gift of life. And that is the air that you breathe each and every day that is not guaranteed.

Happy November Everyone!

Be Grateful! Be Thankful! And Be Blessed!

Tis’ The Season Life Check-up (Series) Part IV – Peace Of Mind

christmas-peace-andrew-soundarajan.jpg I shared a Vibe the Soul series last year that discussed the importance of Health, Finances, Love, & Peace of Mind. Feel free to revisit that series below for this was probably one of my favorite blog series on being able to conduct a Self- life check!

Intro- Vibe The Soul 4 Part Series: https://thehealthysoulvibe.com/2017/11/30/vibe-the-soul-elements-4-pt-series/

I want to revisit some quick tips for each element as we approach the end of the year within a new holiday season!

Feel free to revisit The Vibe The Soul Series on the Peace Of Mind Element

PEACE OF MIND:  https://thehealthysoulvibe.com/2017/12/28/vibe-the-soul-element-pt-iv-peace-of-mind/

In this element, I discussed  positive impacts of consistent self care, taking mental breaks, and eliminating toxicity for a steady peace of mind. It is important to take a look at this current year to see what changes  we need to make for a better year mentally. As we conclude this series, be sure to take a look at all of the elements combined including finances, health, and love and break down what may cause some instability in your life of each. What is keeping you stressed out and unstable? What can you improve in your life for a better outlook? Who can you ask for better assistance or guidance to better yourself and your surroundings?

Now is the time to take a look back and start making some positive and necessary changes and surround yourself with influences that bring the best out of you. Positive energy that will keep you sane and most importantly overloaded with an abundance of happiness.

  • Vacation, Vacation, Vacations. Traveling is such a great way to take a mental break. It allows you to enjoy the moment and make memories and experiences whether that is with friends, family, or with a significant other. The routine is broken and your mind and body finally get to relax and de-stress.
  • Self Care Days. Earlier in the year, I mentioned the popular Self Care calendar. I think it is important to take a day or even just 1 hour out of the day for you. Meditate, read a book, go for a walk, rest, take a bubble bath, shop, get your hair done. Take some time to take care of yourself. Nobody else is going to.
  • De-clutter. Remove the pessimistic people in your life. Rid the unnecessary chaos in your home. And lastly, empty the negative thoughts circulating in your mind. Free yourself from toxicity.
  • Seek professional help  and guidance if needed. There is treatment available if counsel is what you need mentally and emotionally.

  • Going into a new year can be a fresh new start but your must know that it’s a choice. You choose how to live the rest of your life.

I hope you found that revisiting this series is beneficial to your life and wellness. Through it all I hope your remember to breathe through the difficult times. Smile every chance you get. Never hide your feelings and emotions. We are not meant to hold in inner turmoil. We must take chances starting now!
