The Wellness Journey
I was one of those women that was overweight, but as people would say, “carried my weight well.” I would go to the gym 3 times a week, accomplishing 45 minutes on the elliptical, but still eating whatever I wanted to. In the back of my mind, I knew this regimen was not going to achieve the health and weight goal I desired. I tried very hard to be content with my self-image but at the end of the day, I was very unhappy with my size and weight. I hated the way my clothes fit and before I knew it, I was 28 years old, 184 lbs. I was on the borderline of being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and I was recommended treatment for Hypertension or High Blood Pressure. I was physically and mentally defeated & depressed.
July 2012, I remember deciding that it was time for a change. I simply did not want to feel what I was feeling any longer. I kicked started my Health Journey with a 7 day fruits and vegetables cleanse. I’m not perfect. I can honestly say that I deviated from time to time. And just after a seven-day cleanse and successfully decreasing my weight by 6 lbs, I began to alter my regimen and increase my work outs to 6 days a week. The class combination included some of my favorite group x classes; Turbo Kickboxing, Body Combat, Body Pump, and Nike Boot Camp Classes. I began running 3 times a week and incorporating weight lifting at least twice a week. I don’t like diets, so my meals consisted of making better eating/snack choices and smaller portions. My overall goal was to cut back salts and sugars and before I knew it, I was down nearly 50 lbs.
During the year of 2013, I became a certified Turbo kickboxing instructor and a Team Beach Body Coach. I enjoyed helping others jump-start their fitness journeys and providing advice and guidance by forming many accountability health groups.
I had focused so much on my physical health, that I neglected my well-being. I lost sight of my mental, spiritual, and emotional wellness. That’s when I created The Healthy Soul-Vibe to be an outsource for those seeking positive tips and advice on wellness. I am currently focused on my undergraduate B.A. in Human Development and Family Studies at the University of North Texas. I always told myself there are 2 things in life that I want and love to do for the rest of my life and that is travel and help people get healthy all over the world. I hope to serve as an outreach internationally in wellness and hope to help others all over the world seek healing in the most natural form in their lives.
